After successfully crowdfunding almost $5000 during the cycling trip (thank you all again!), I have spent the best part of the last year working on putting my urban farming idea into action.
The name of the project is Forkhay City Farms and we are currently setting up a number of mini farms around Morningside in the south of Brisbane. The name is a play on 4K, a reference to the 4000 postcode of Brisbane City and most importantly stressing the localised nature of the project, with the aim being that all growing, distributing and eating occurs within 4km. We have assembled a number of keen volunteers and found some backyards and even a primary school willing to let us use their space to grow food in the city.
For more information and to see the latest updates on the project, please visit www.forkhaycityfarms.com.
We encourage anybody, regardless of their gardening ability, to get in touch and get involved. Please see the the website for contact details or just sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop.
