The Campaign

Along with riding a ridiculous distance dressed as a huge carrot, I am also attempting to raise some funds to start a small non-profit project aimed at demonstrating that a significant amount of food can be grown in urban and suburban areas by utilising unused backyards. The idea is to gather a group of volunteers together, identify a suitable ‘food desert’ area in Brisbane (region where it is difficult to buy fresh produce), find some backyards and get to farming them! The produce grown will be divided up with some going back to the property owners (in exchange for leasing their backyard), some being sent out in weekly food baskets to lower income households and the rest sold at a small market stand in the neighborhood.
